Why Madden

A driveway isn't a surface.
It's drainage.

Penrith driveways range from suburban concrete replacements to rural acreage access tracks. The clay through most of Penrith means drainage is critical — without proper crossfall and table drains, a new driveway turns to mud in one wet season. Longer rural-style driveways on the semi-rural fringe. Sandy soils drain well naturally, but roadbase still needs proper compaction and formation.

💧

Drainage first

Cross-drains, water bars, mitre drains, culverts — we cut drainage into every driveway so water moves off the surface fast, not down it.

🔢

Compacted, not dumped

Roadbase laid in layers and plate-compacted. Not a truckload dumped and raked flat — that rides for a month then potholes.

🔧

Rock-breaking built in

Most Kurrajong driveways hit sandstone shelf somewhere. Hydraulic breaker on the 8t and 14t handles it without calling in a second contractor.

💬

Honest surface advice

Roadbase works for most rural driveways. Deco looks better but costs more. We tell you what's right for your slope and budget — no up-sell.

🏕

Steep-country specialists

Benching, switchbacks, retainers where needed. Grades that a work ute, a removal van and an RFS truck can all handle.

💳

Fixed-price where we can

Defined driveways quoted fixed. Hourly with a cap where there's unknown rock. You know the ceiling before we start.

What We Do

Driveways, paths, haul roads.
One contractor, one call.

01

New rural driveways

Kerb to house pad. Benching, drainage, sheeting, compaction, finish to your surface of choice.

02

Re-sheeting & re-grading

Tired driveway brought back — regrade the shape, drop fresh roadbase, compact and re-fall.

03

Drainage & culverts

Polypipe and concrete culverts, headwalls, cross-drains. The expensive-sounding bit that saves the driveway.

04

Access tracks

Back-of-block tracks to sheds, dams, orchards, paddocks. Narrower than a driveway, still properly drained.

05

Haul roads

Temporary construction roads. Laid, graded and maintained while your project runs; rehabilitated at the end.

06

Walkway & path clearing

Foot paths between house, shed and garden. Cleared, benched and sheeted for all-weather walking.

07

Washout & pothole repair

Emergency washout repair after heavy rain. Cross-drain installed at the same time so it stops happening.

08

Crossover & entry works

The first 10 metres — kerb cut, culvert, apron. Coordinated with council for approvals where needed.

FAQ

Driveway questions, answered.

Can you build a new rural driveway?+

From the road kerb through to the house pad — benching, drainage, culverts, compacted roadbase, and whatever final surface you want.

My driveway keeps washing out — can you fix it properly?+

Almost always a drainage problem, not a surface one. Re-sheeting alone won't last. We regrade, cut drainage, then sheet — it stops scouring.

How much does a rural driveway cost?+

Depends on length, grade, drainage, and rock. Short flat driveways: day's work on a 5.5-tonne. Long sloping driveways with culverts and rock-breaking: weeks. Hourly from $120/hr ex GST.

Can you do the driveway and the site prep together?+

Yes — and it's cheaper. Same mobilisation, same tippers. One contractor, one fixed price.

Do you install culverts?+

Yes — concrete and polypipe. Trench, lay, bed, backfill and compact. Crossover approvals coordinated with council on the main-road end.

What running surface do you recommend?+

Compacted roadbase for most rural driveways — hard, sheds water, easy to maintain. Recycled concrete (Deco) looks better but costs more. Sealed driveways we prep for a sealer.

Can you work on steep Kurrajong Heights / Bilpin driveways?+

All the time — it's most of what we do. Benching, retainers, water management, rock-breaking. Home patch.

Do you do haul roads for bigger projects?+

Yes — temporary construction haul roads, laid, graded, maintained while the project runs, rehabilitated at the end.

Can you re-grade an existing driveway without ripping it up?+

Usually yes — blade it back to shape, fresh roadbase across low spots, re-compact. We'll tell you honestly if it's too far gone for that.
